Thirteen colonies match up
Several European nations took part in the race to claim lands in the Americas. Their next step was to establish colonies in the land that they claimed. The first English colonies were established in the late 1500s, but failed. Even in successful colonies, colonists faced hardships and challenges. In this WebQuest you will be studying the ways in which different colonies were founded, how different geographical features affected the way that they were developed and what life was like for the colonists.
Every student will be assigned one of the three colonial areas: The Southern Colonies, the Middle Colonies and New England. Once you have gathered all the information necessary, you will then create a travel poster or brochure advertising that particular region for people interested in moving to the New World.
Each travel poster or brochure should contain the following information:
· The name of the area
· The names of the different colonies that make up that region
· Information regarding the person or people who founded the colonies
· Information about why or how they founded it
· Interesting people who lived there
· Geographic features and how they affected people’s lives
· A map of the area
· Native Americans in the Area
· Religions of the area
· Any laws or acts of interest that were passed in the area
See the websites below for information regarding all of the colonial areas and you can start your research!
