Excel: Creating a table
Before we begin to collect our data on fast food, we need to create the table and worksheet in Excel that we will use to analyze the data.
Follow the directions below to create the table you will be using to compare the information you find about your favorite fast food restaurants. Click on the Excel vocabulary button for the definition of any key terms.
1. Open Excel
2. Create an Excel Workbook (it is the default choice on Excel)
3. Write the title for your table in Cell A1. You can use a title of your own choosing or your can simply use: Fast Food Comparison. You can always change the title at a later date.
4. Go to Cell 3A, this will be the heading for your rows. Type: Menu Item
5. Go to Cell 3B, here you will start the Column Titles. For each title move over one cell (3B, 3C, 3D, etc). You should have six (6) different columns with the headings of: Calories, Fat, Sodium, Cholesterol, Sugar and Protein.
6. Go to Cell A15 and select the table from A15 to F15 and up to the Column Headings. Select "All Borders" (in the Font section), adjust the rows and columns so that your words fit and you have finished your table!
7. Save your file to your folder on the Desktop (using the "Save As" function) as Class_Lastname_FastFood
8. If time allows, you can change the font, color and style of the table so that it looks the way you want it to look. If you make any changes DO NOT FORGET TO SAVE IT AGAIN!!
See the sample table below for the way your table could look with the default font and some color added in.
