Follow the directions below to write your own article for the newspaper.
Use this list in conjunction with the checklist to make sure you have completed all steps.
Steps to Writing Your Article
1. Complete an inverted pyramid for your own article so you have a graphic organizer for when you go to write.
*Don't forget that part of the inverted pyramid is coming up
with a strong headline. Think back to your lesson on head-
lines and try to come up with some good ideas for yours!
2. Discuss your inverted pyramid with a partner and explain exactly what your article will be about.
3. Type up your article in Microsoft Word in one of the templates attached below.
4. Check SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) using the tools available in Word.
5. Save your article to your file folder on your computer using the naming function. Sample: 701_Horne_Article.
6. Print out a copy of the rubric that you created.
7. Ask another student to use the rubric and grade your article and write comments on the back of your checklist where they give you a WWW (or what went well) comment and a EBI (or even better if) comment. Here are some examples of what they could write.
8. Make any changes to improve your article.
9. Use the rubric again and now give yourself a grade and a WWW and EBI comment.
10. Triple-check your article and hand in the checklist sheet and your article to Mrs. Horne AND email a copy to [email protected] so it is included in the final class copy.
